Growth | Ignorance | Bumper Stickers

Last night, I pulled up behind a random Honda Civic at a stop light. Gorgeous woman behind the wheel, singing along to whatever was on the radio. Leather seats, Bluetooth, iPhone mounted on the dash. All of the modern conveniences we know, love, and take for granted.

On her bumper was a bumper sticker that said, in big bright letters, “I’D RATHER BE TAKING PUBLIC TRANSIT“. Okay, good for you. Underneath the big declaration of desire were the words “Democratic Socialists for a Green New Deal.” The dichotomy. The audacity.

Somewhere deep within my lizard brain was the desire to step out of my car, slash three of her tires, and tell her to take public transit. I’m happy to say that the lizard brain lost this round, thankfully.

Ten years ago, I would’ve been driving home with a piece of rubber in the passenger seat. Yesterday, I simply…drove home.

That’s growth, right?

As I’m driving, it dawns upon me that her biggest issue is simply ignorance. She was young, probably younger than thirty, and has sipped from the punch bowl in Guyana. I could’ve given her a lecture about the failures of Socialism, but would she have cared? Would she have rolled her eyes or had a snappy comeback when I showed her that Socialism/Communism has failed 100% of the time? Would it have made any kind of difference anyway?

But no, I elected to let sleeping dogs lay, ignorant youth being ignorant, and continue about my day. I also decided to write about it, so that’s a win in and of itself, I suppose.

Speaking of writing, there is more on the way. I’m currently working on a few intelligence reports/sitreps, a long form post on faith, and my first gear review.

Keep an eye out, they’ll be dropping soon.
